Several related peptides act on the same receptor, including sermorelin, a shorter GHRH fragment, and modified analogs such as CJC-1295 and modified GRF(1-29) that are common in research settings rather than approved products. Tesamorelin differs from growth hormone itself in that it acts upstream, prompting the pituitary to release the hormone through physiological signaling rather than supplying it directly. Terminology in the literature distinguishes GHRH analogs, growth hormone secretagogues, and recombinant growth hormone, although popular discussion often blurs these categories together. Precise naming matters when comparing study results.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide of 44 amino acids that reproduces the sequence of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and carries a trans-3-hexenoyl group on its N-terminal tyrosine. That small fatty-acid modification blocks cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase-4, the enzyme that rapidly degrades native GHRH in plasma. The result is a molecule with a longer circulating half-life than the natural hormone while retaining the same receptor target. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution and belongs to the broader class of GHRH analogs studied for effects on pituitary growth hormone secretion.
Development work on the compound, originally designated TH9507, focused on conditions in which reduced growth hormone signaling is thought to contribute to altered body composition. The United States Food and Drug Administration approved it in 2010 for the treatment of excess visceral abdominal fat in adults with human immunodeficiency virus infection and lipodystrophy. Later research examined other populations, including adults with mild cognitive impairment, where a large trial did not meet its primary endpoints. This mixed record illustrates how a single mechanism can produce clear effects in one setting and inconclusive results in another.

== Medical uses == Skin, vaginal, mouth, and esophageal Candida infections usually respond well to treatment with nystatin. Infections of nails or hyperkeratinized skin do not respond well. When given parenterally (that is, other routes besides oral/topical/vaginal), its activity is reduced due to presence of plasma. Oral nystatin is often used as a preventive treatment in people who are at risk for fungal infections, such as AIDS patients with a low CD4+ count and people receiving chemotherapy. It has been investigated for use in patients after liver transplantation, but fluconazole was found to be much more effective for preventing colonization, invasive infection, and death. It is effective in treating oral candidiasis in elderly people who wear dentures. It is also used in very low birth-weight (less than 1500 g or 3 lb 5oz o) infants to prevent invasive fungal infections, although fluconazole is the preferred treatment. It has been found to reduce the rate of invasive fungal infections and also reduce deaths when used in these babies. Liposomal nystatin is not commercially available, but investigational use has shown greater in vitro activity than colloidal formulations of amphotericin B, and demonstrated effectiveness against some amphotericin B-resistant forms of fungi. It offers an intriguing possibility for difficult-to-treat systemic infections, such as invasive aspergillosis, or infections that demonstrate resistance to amphotericin B. Cryptococcus is also sensitive to nystatin.
Nutrition science (theoretical focus) and dietetics (practical focus) is the study of the relationship of food and drink to health and disease, especially in determining an optimal diet. Medical nutrition therapy is done by dietitians and is prescribed for diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, weight and eating disorders, allergies, malnutrition, and neoplastic diseases. Pathology as a science is the study of disease – the causes, course, progression and resolution thereof. Pharmacology is the study of drugs and their actions. Photobiology is the study of the interactions between non-ionizing radiation and living organisms. Physiology is the study of the normal functioning of the body and the underlying regulatory mechanisms. Radiobiology is the study of the interactions between ionizing radiation and living organisms. Toxicology is the study of hazardous effects of drugs and poisons.
=== Formal development never or not yet started === Small-molecule oxytocin receptor agonists (e.g., LIT-001, LIT-002) 15-Lipoxygenase (15-LOX; ALOX15) inhibitors (small-molecule indirect oxytocin-like drugs) (e.g., KNX-100 (SOC-1), KNX-101)
Benzodiazepines developed in the former Soviet Union (e.g. phenazepam, gidazepam etc.) Benzodiazepines predominantly used only in Japan (e.g. nimetazepam, flutoprazepam etc.) 4,5-cyclised benzodiazepines (e.g. ketazolam, cloxazolam etc.), and other compounds not researched by Roche Benzodiazepines developed more recently (e.g. remimazolam, QH-ii-066, Ro48-6791 etc.) "Designer" benzodiazepines for which in vitro binding data are unavailable (e.g. flubromazolam, pyrazolam etc.) While binding or activity data are available for most of these compounds also, the assay conditions vary between sources, meaning that in many cases the values are not suitable for a direct comparison. Many older sources used animal measures of activity (i.e. sedation or anticonvulsant activity) but did not measure in vitro binding to benzodiazepine receptors. See for instance Table 2 vs Table 11 in the Chem Rev paper, Table 2 lists in vitro pIC50 values matching those below, while Table 11 has pEC50 values derived from in vivo assays in mice, which show the same activity trends but cannot be compared directly, and includes data for compounds such as diclazepam and flubromazepam which are not available in the main data set. The chemical nature of the stationary phase. The stationary phase can be coated with some ligands at different bonding densities (how many ligands are bonded per surface area). The composition of the mobile phase. The mobile phase may be made of one solvent, or a mixture of several solvents. The solvents can be mixed at different ratios. Different mobile phases have different properties, such as polarity. When a mobile phase consists of mostly one solvent, with some other solvents added in small amounts, those other solvents are called "mobile phase modifiers". The pH of the mobile phase, which affect the ionization state of the solutes and their polarity. This can be changed with additives such as buffers. Usually, the stationary phase is made of a layer of hydrophobic substrate bonded to the surface of porous silica gel particles. The particles come in various shapes (spheric, irregular), at different diameters (sub-2, 3, 5, 7, 10 μm), with varying pore diameters (60, 100, 150, 300 Å). The particle diameters are often given as mesh numbers. For example, 2500-mesh corresponds to a particle diameter of 5 μm. The hydrophobic substrates are generally alkyl chains, such as C3, C4, C8, C18, or more. The longer the chain, the longer the sample components will be retained. It would make the resolution power higher, but also make the chromatography take longer to run. Most current methods of separation of biomedical materials use C18 columns, sometimes called by trade names, such as ODS (octadecylsilane) or RP-18 (reverse phase 18).
=== Reproductive === Androgens such as testosterone, androstenedione and dihydrotestosterone are required for the development of organs in the male reproductive system, including the seminal vesicles, epididymis, vas deferens, penis and prostate. AAS are testosterone derivatives designed to maximize the anabolic effects of testosterone. AAS are consumed by elite athletes competing in sports like weightlifting, bodybuilding, and track and field. Male recreational athletes take AAS to achieve an "enhanced" physical appearance. AAS consumption disrupts the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis (HPG axis) in males. In the HPG axis, gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is secreted from the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus and stimulates the anterior pituitary to secrete the two gonadotropins, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). In adult males, LH stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone which is required to form new sperm through spermatogenesis. AAS consumption leads to dose-dependent suppression of gonadotropin release through suppression of GnRH from the hypothalamus (long-loop mechanism) or from direct negative feedback on the anterior pituitary to inhibit gonadotropin release (short-loop mechanism), leading to AAS-induced hypogonadism.
By 1960, it was the fund's most successful investment, and its returns helped demonstrate the viability of venture investing in start-ups. After federal science funding contracted in the late 1960s, HVEC ceased accelerator production and reorganized as a conglomerate. The company was taken private in 1988 and filed for bankruptcy in 2005.
==== Quitting writing and The Chain ==== McKinty quit writing in 2017 after being evicted from his rented house, citing a lack of income from his novels, and instead took work as an Uber driver and a bartender. Upon hearing of his situation, fellow crime author Don Winslow passed some of his books to his agent, the screenwriter and producer Shane Salerno. In a late-night phone call, Salerno persuaded McKinty to write what would become The Chain. Salerno loaned the author ("advance on the advance") $10,000 to help him survive financially during the process. The stand-alone thriller was inspired by the chain letters of his youth and contemporary reports of hostage exchanges. McKinty returned to writing after the book landed him a six-figure English-language book deal, and was optioned for a film adaptation by Paramount Pictures. In an interview on CBS McKinty talked about never giving up and took the interviewer, Jeff Glor, to Plum Island, Massachusetts, where The Chain is set. The Chain was published in 37 countries.

=== Cultivation === White-barked birches in particular are cultivated as ornamental trees, largely for their appearance in winter. The Himalayan birch, Betula utilis, especially the variety or subspecies jacquemontii, is among the most widely planted for this purpose. It has been cultivated since the 1870s, and many cultivars are available, including 'Doorenbos', 'Grayswood Ghost' and 'Silver Shadow'; 'Knightshayes' has a slightly weeping habit. Other species with ornamental white bark include Betula ermanii, Betula papyrifera, Betula pendula and Betula raddeana.
=== NAD+ pptimization === 1-MNA is an inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). By inhibiting NNMT activity, it regulates NAD+ biosynthesis via the nicotinamide salvage pathway, the primary route for NAD+ synthesis in mammals. By participating in this pathway, 1-MNA optimizes NAD+ levels.

It is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids arranged in the same order as human growth hormone-releasing hormone. A short fatty-acid chain, described as a trans-3-hexenoyl group, is attached to the first amino acid. The finished molecule is formulated as a sterile powder that is dissolved before use.
